Is Liberalism Really the Big Tent, or the Big Lie?

Former White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs has always lamented that Democrats are the “big tent” party, where differing viewpoints are not only tolerated, but welcomed. Following the 2010 midterm elections, Gibbs told CBS in an interview “I doubt there are many in Congress that agree with each and everything that the president agrees on. We have the luxury of enjoying a party with a big tent…. there are common values that we enjoy as members of the same party.”

See now, that’s weird, because reality shows the exact opposite. The indictment of Senator Robert Menendez (D-NJ) would be a recent example. Menendez had the audacity to speak out publicly against President Barack Obama’s negotiations with Iran. The indictment came within weeks of the ranking Democrat’s strongly worded statement, “I have to be honest with you. The more I hear from the administration and its quotes, the more it sounds like talking points that come straight out of Tehran.” So tell me more about that “big tent?”

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

Is Liberalism really all about respecting a wide array of views, or is that just a big lie?

In his book Mein Kampf, a young Adolph Hitler laid out his philosophy that the use of a lie so “colossal” that no one would believe that someone “could have the impudence to distort the truth so infamously,” seems to have become one of the primary tenants of the left. Think back to Barack Obama’s first meeting with then Saudi King Abdullah. Even though it’s all on video for everyone to see, the aforementioned Robert Gibbs insists to this very day that President Obama “didn’t bow.” Regardless of the importance of his actions, it was indeed the first of many “big lies” we’ve encountered under the current administration. Here’s a very recent example proving that the “big tent” party claim is, in fact, a colossal lie.

So, in his interview with Diane Sawyer, former Olympian Bruce Jenner committed the ultimate sin. While many might think that sin was Jenner’s declaration of his status as a transgender, hardly a well-kept secret, this was not the “ultimate” sin for those on the left. I recently wrote an article for this site titled “The Normalization of Deviant Behavior,” so no need to rehash that here. The true sin here was that Jenner considers himself to be a conservative! So much for tolerance!

As the above video shows, liberals are outraged. This was supposed to be another historic event, but instead, it quickly turned into a great example of how small the tent really is. Regardless of an individual’s race, gender, socio-economic status, liberals and progressives have no tolerance for anyone espousing any views which might be construed as conservative. Just ask Senator Menendez.
