Democrat Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D-IL) is one of the left’s leading immigration bomb-throwers, and he didn’t disappoint when appearing on MSNBC to complain about a federal judge’s decision to block Obama’s Executive Amnesty earlier this week.
Which Candidate Do You Support in the Republican Primaries?
“The Republican party is making a critical mistake,” he said. “The militancy that will be activated throughout the immigrant community — in terms of voter registration, voter participation, voter anger at the Republican party as a party in the United States — I think you’re going to see it in an unprecedented manner.”
“Look, you may think you won today, but your victory is going to be very short-lived,” the lawmaker warned his GOP colleagues. “And November 2016 is coming right around the corner, and this will come back to haunt you.”
Notice how quick Gutierrez is to qualify what he means when he says “militancy”? I think he realized as soon as he said it that it was probably a mistake to use a word so filled with violent connotation. But once it was out there… it was out there. Because how “militant” does this sound – in terms of voter registration, voter participation, voter anger at the Republican party? There is nothing “militant” about performing your basic civic duties, like registering to vote, voting and being mad at one party over the other.
I think the obvious thing is that Gutierrez literally meant “militant.” He actually believes that illegal immigrant demonstrators will become more aggressive, more active and more militant in their demonstrations.
He may be right, but it wasn’t just Republicans who thought that the President have overstepped his authority by granting a blanket Executive amnesty.
