For many years, the Jewish community has been supporters of the Democratic Party, and for many years, this has worked well for both the Jewish Americans voting a more left-leaning agenda and the party.
But of late, the relationship has become jeopardized.
The Democrats have been more and more in support of the Islamic and Arab neighbors of Israel. They have openly criticized the Israeli policies and blamed them for the conflict in Israel’s fight against terror. And this break seemed to culminate in the decision of Obama and his Administration to not veto the UN resolution against Israeli settlements in the West Bank.
But, with Obama leaving office, there seem to be concessions being made by the party toward Israel.
The Washington Times reports:
More than 100 House and Senate Democrats have broken with the White House by signing onto resolutions disapproving of the Obama administration for its refusal to veto a U.N. measure condemning Israeli settlements, including building in east Jerusalem.
The willingness by Democrats to defy Mr. Obama comes as what may be the party’s most visible show of support for Israel in eight years.
The House resolution passed Friday by a vote of 342-80, with 109 Democrats joining 233 Republicans in backing the measure calling for the repeal of the “one-sided and anti-Israel” U.N. resolution. Another 76 Democrats voted against it and four voted “present.”
This will likely be the primer for a reversal of U.S. policy concerning the resolution. This means that the UN will lack the wherewithal to enforce the resolution.
This, coupled with Trump’s insistence on moving the U.S. embassy to Jerusalem, things could be moving toward a more hostile relationship with Arab countries.
