Off Duty Cop Amazingly Stops Armed Robbery – Victim Attributes it to God

I realize that police officers get a lot of flak and that is mostly due to the bad apples among them. However, this story is one that needs to be told about a good cop that performed an incredible feat. He disarmed an armed thief in the middle of a liquor store robbery, but the way he did it left the store clerk attributing the officer’s quick thinking and quick actions to God.

Dallas Police Officer Richard Stewart, 33, was on his way into work when he noticed a fight in the parking lot of a liquor store. He immediately pulled into the parking lot and was going to make an attempt to sort things out when, instead of a brief encounter that would allow him not to leave his vehicle, he had a gun barrel pointed to his head.

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

Stewart, who works in plain clothes and was driving his personal vehicle attempted to help two clerks who were attempting to catch Carlos Lemos, 32, who allegedly stole a bottle of Tequila and Vodka. Lemos is also a convicted felon. (By the way, how are those gun control laws working out for you gun grabbers concerning Lemos?)

Oscar Torres, one of the store clerks told NBCDFW, “He said, ‘No worry, no worry, I’m a police officer,” said Oscar Torres, one of the store clerks. “After that I started to calm down.”

However, Stewart said that as he approached Lemos, he pointed a gun at him and told him, “I’m going to shoot you, I’m going to shoot you, I’m going to shoot you all.”

The men eventually fought each other on the ground as Stewart attempted to subdue Lemos. Watch the surveillance footage of Stewarts heroic action in the video report below.

“I was thinking, ‘I’m not going to die today,'” Stewart said. “I don’t think you have time to get scared. You’re fighting for your life. You got to do what you got to do.”

According to the Dallas News, Stewart:

“pushed the gun downward and struggled with the suspect for about five minutes.

At one point, the suspect pointed his revolver at Stewart. The officer said he managed to lodge his finger between the trigger guard and the trigger, preventing the suspect from firing. Stewart said the man still tried to shoot him in the head. Eventually, Stewart also used his hand to release the revolver’s cylinder and empty out the bullets.”

“That one, I think, is on God — that he put him in [that place] on this moment,” Torres said. “He saved it, because I tell you, we were fighting for our lives.”

Lemos is being held in the Dallas County Jail on $170,000 bail and is charged with aggravated assault of a public servant, drug possession, theft, auto theft, and unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon.

As for Stewart, the father of three children, whose youngest was just born in October, he is happy to be alive and according to Major Jimmy Vaughan of the northwest patrol division, he will be getting several commendations shortly.

“This is an extraordinary arrest,” said Vaughan of the seven-year veteran. “This is phenomenal the way it turned out.”

“There are so many medals involved in this,” he added. “I can’t wait to get a hold of his supervisor to get the paperwork started.”

Keep in mind that this is in Texas, where a bill has been introduced to nullify all federal gun laws. After all, not only are they unconstitutional, they are worthless in stopping criminals from obtaining guns.
