1) First Advent was 11/27 this year and is always centered on “Hope”

Luke 1: 39-41

Family activity: Gather construction paper, scissors, pencils or markers.

Trace around your hands and write your names on the handprints. Tape together

to create a garland. Every time you have visitors between our broadcast and

Epiphany, invite them to add to your garland.

(Why Epiphany? Epiphany is the ‘bridge’ between Christmas and Easter)

2) Second Advent was 12/4 and always uses “Peace”

Isaiah 9:6

Family activity: Create your own manger scene! Use stuffed animals or

hope your pets will cooperate to create a live one. You could also make

a scene on paper to display or via the computer to print out. You could

also see if there’s a live Nativity near you and attend as a family.

3) Third Advent was 12/11 and will center on “Love”

Isaiah 7:14 and Luke 1: 46-56

Family activity: Create placemats for any visiting family or friends

who’ve not arrived yet. If they are already present, invite them to do the

same. If you have a soup kitchen or know of a family you will be blessing

anonymously, make some for them.

4) Fourth Advent is 12/18 and centers around “Joy”

Luke 2:7, 11, John 1:1-8

Family activity: Make some hot chocolate or your favorite hot drinks, bake some

homemade cookies and gather together. Talk about the gifts God has given

your family in 2022, especially those which didn’t really FEEL like gifts.

(example: a rained out ballgame for Johnny meant he could hang out with

his parents and siblings)

5) Christmas Day

Read Luke 2:11, Ps 66:1-4, and others your family has relied on.

Family activity:Celebrate His birth and attempt to go the entire day without a cross

word to anyone.
